I’m responsible for the marketing and development of new services at Sibbalds, which includes writing and hosting any seminars we run, and overseeing the email marketing etc. that we do.
I spend a lot of my client facing time helping with business strategy and tax planning, and meet many of my clients on a monthly or quarterly basis through our BoardSmart service.
My role is to work closely with clients to provide a sounding board for their ideas as well as offering business advice, helping businesses owners to develop and execute their corporate strategy and advising on audit and accounting issues. I am also our specialist in the Academy Schools sector.
Qualifications and Experience
I’m a Chartered Certified Accountant and a Chartered Tax Adviser, after qualifying with a large local firm in 2004. I’ve worked at several local and regional firms since starting in accountancy in 1998, including 2 years in the accounts department at a small IT company which helped me develop my commercial skills. I joined Sibbalds in August 2008.
What I enjoy most about the role
As anyone who has met me will testify, I do like to talk – and most importantly I like to talk to my clients about their businesses and their plans for the future.
For me, the most enjoyable part of what I do is helping business owners achieve their goals and create better businesses and better lives for themselves. When you see someone go from scraping by earning a very low income but working a lot of hours, to earning substantial six figure sums and being able to take 2 or 3 week long family holidays, it’s extremely rewarding.
Family is very important to me, and I always try and make sure that the work I do with my clients is focussed on creating a better life for them and their families.
Things I enjoy doing outside of Sibbalds
I have a young son, William, who I absolutely adore. Much of my spare time is spent with him so I’m an expert on farm animals, Peppa Pig, and Lego!
Outside of this I am a keen Derby County fan, and play football once a week too. I enjoy keeping fit, which includes running, going to the gym and taking part in obstacle races. In 2014 I completed my second Tough Mudders and I’m currently looking for my next challenge!
William and I are avid campers, and go away several times a year if the weather permits. I am thinking of upgrading to a caravan though!
Something you might not know about me
I once scored 157 on a Mensa IQ test, and I’ve met Errol Brown from Hot Chocolate whilst on holiday in Majorca. I don’t think he was as pleased to see me as I was him though.
