Exam success for Elle and Holly – and a World Cup sweepstake

It has been a good month for the team, with exam results to celebrate, a World Cup sweepstake to settle and a much quieter office than usual.

Exam success for the team

A lot of our students sat exams in June and received their results this month, and we had an almost clean sweep of passes. Well done to everyone who got results in July!

Elle passed her final exam and is now a fully qualified Chartered Certified Accountant, which means she can dedicate rather more of her spare time to growing vegetables, horse riding and scuba diving.

Holly passed her final CTA exam, so she is now a Chartered Tax Adviser as well as a Chartered Accountant, having gained that qualification in January. We are already sending her plenty of challenging tax questions to put the training to the test, so if you need tax advice, do give her or Dec a call.

World Cup heartbreak, but promising signs

Sadly it was not coming home this time, but England managed their highest World Cup finish since 1966 by coming third — and what a match that was. The quality of the squad gives real hope that we can win a major tournament soon. The next one is the Euros in 2028, held on home soil, which also happens to be our 100th anniversary at Sibbalds.

We ran our usual sweepstake, as we do for most major tournaments. Katie Preston took top prize with Spain and Holly came second with Argentina. We had all assumed Dec would win, as he seems to on most of these things, given he drew France.

A quieter summer at the Cavendish Building

It is very quiet at Sibbalds HQ at the moment, as most of the students are away. We have been enjoying lifts that do not stop on every floor — the students do not seem keen on the stairs — and a more relaxed atmosphere before everyone returns in September.

The weather has been scorching for what feels like months, but we have stayed comfortable thanks to the climate controls in the building. Some of the team have even had to wear jumpers.

We are looking forward to sharing more news next month, including a new team member.
