The Sibbalds team got together recently for one of our regular strategy and team building events.
We went to The Wonky Table, on Saddler Gate, where we spent an hour discussing the performance over the past 12 months (we’re delighted to have grown by almost 20% in that period!), and what we need to focus on over the next 3, 6 and 12 months to help us to achieve our growth and client service targets.
A look at Cloud Accounting Software
A key development for us is Cloud Accounting Software, such as Xero, Sage One, and Quickbooks Online to name a few. We’ve been using these packages for 3-4 years now, and will be introducing some of the productivity tools/apps that work alongside these to help us, and our clients, be more efficient. So, keep an eye out for details of the ones we’ve tested and implemented in future newsletters!
We’ll also be testing out various smartphone/tablet Apps that can help save time and money for our business clients, and that integrate with the software we use.
Long Service Awards!
Following our strategy discussions we held a presentation to recognise the long service of a number of our team members:
- Harry Cooke and Alison Webster – 5 years
- Rob Holt and Katie Preston – 10 years (Katie’s actually had two spells at Sibbalds – totalling over 20 years!)
- Iain Young and Paul Hanson – 20 years
- And finally, Julie Rogerson – 31 years (yes that’s not a typo – we didn’t get chance to celebrate Julie’s 30 year anniversary properly last year so made sure we did it this year instead…)
Those that qualify (having performed at least 20 years’ service, and having not received a long service award in the past 10 years) are entitled to tax free awards worth £50 for each year of service. The rewards must be non-cash. As you would expect we took advantage of this exemption and presented Iain and Paul with One-4-All vouchers, which can be used at over 2,000 retailers and I am sure that we’ll see even more Amazon deliveries coming in to the office than usual soon!
Following the presentation of these awards, we enjoyed a delicious meal and drinks, thanks to the staff at The Wonky Table. If you haven’t been, we can strongly recommend it.
Just a reminder that you can spend up to £150 per year, per employee, on staff entertaining as long as it meets certain criteria (these can be found under Section 264(3) ITEPA 2003 – or just ask us if you’re not sure) and can in most cases recover the VAT on this – so if you needed a reason to get your team together and have fun whilst working on your business, there you have it!
