Despite it being one of the hottest months of the year, staff at Sibbalds wore their favourite onesies and pyjamas to work on Friday 12 August to raise money for the British Thyroid Foundation, a charity which provides support and advice to individuals and their families who are dealing with thyroid conditions as well as continual research into medications and treatment.
The British Thyroid Foundation was the charity of choice as sadly one of our team members step daughter, Evelyn was diagnosed with Congenital Hypothyroidism when she was a few days old. This means she will be on daily medication and have regular blood tests for the rest of her life.
Congenital Hypothyroidism occurs early in an unborn baby’s development where the thyroid gland does not develop as well as it should. The thyroid gland produces hormones which control the speed at which the body’s cells work and this can affect, amongst other things, the heart rate, breathing, circulation and growth, therefore if Hypothyroidism is not diagnosed quickly it can lead to long term health issues. Luckily, in Evelyn’s case she has developed into a ‘normal’ child and will continue to lead a regular life so long as her medication is monitored.
It must be said that the Sibbalds team have never looked better as they ventured outside of the office for a team lunch whilst still wearing their onesies!
The British Thyroid Foundation would like to thank everyone that got involved and for managing to raise over £100.
