The practice was formed way back in 1928  in Derby, by a Chartered Accountant by the name of James Sibbald.

James Sibbald was later joined by Frederick Farnsworth and Allan Forsyth, to become James Sibbald, Forsyth and Farnsworth – one of the leading firms of Chartered Accountants in Derby at the time.

The firm became Sibbald & Co in 1974 until a strategic change in 2008. Throughout all of the years leading up to this, we were what you would call a traditional firm of Chartered Accountants. We provided all of the services you would expect – audits, accountancy and taxation – to owner managed businesses in Derby and the surrounding area – just like all of our competitors.

2008 : A new strategic plan

And so, in 2008, we created a new strategic plan and embarked on a programme of improvement and change within the business. This has included the appointment of two of the youngest directors in a firm of accountants in Derby.

We decided to rebrand ourselves as Sibbalds – which is what many people referred to us as – and launched our new website (the one you’re reading now – although it has been modified a bit since then!). But that wasn’t all! We also worked hard to develop the range of services we could provide, and improve the way they were delivered, so we could meet the needs of our clients more effectively.

As a result of all of these changes, we’re delighted to say that we’ve been able to develop a great team of professionals with expertise in a wide range of areas – specialist audits, advanced tax planning, business growth and consulting and complex dispute resolution to name but a few. We’re also extremely good at all the things other accountants do – audit, accountancy, tax compliance, payroll, book-keeping and VAT.
